There’s Something About Teachers

Today I hung out at Tim Horton’s while I nibbled on an Oatmeal Raisin cookie and drank a cup of coffee. It was crowded so I shared a table with a gracious senior lady who was out shopping with her niece. We hit it off and had a wonderful conversation about the cuts the government had made to the money paid to seniors. She said she wished they had grandfathered those that were already retired in because now they have less to live on then what they had planned. Also various prices of living are going up. She looked like she was probably ok and probably managed …Well dressed and definitely a lady. It was interesting to hear her concerns. Her niece came and chatted awhile and then left us to continue our conversation. I totally enjoyed her. As she got up to leave I realized I hadn’t finished my coffee and cookie so wasn’t ready to leave however a lady wanted my table for herself and her three friends.

So I scooted over to a table to join a lady who had been sitting by herself for quite awhile. She said she was waiting for her friend to arrive. Then another lady joined us because of the crowded situation. Soon the friend arrived and we all got chatting. Turns the two friends are retired Sidney teachers. Instantly we clicked and we had so much fun talking. What is it a personality style or assertiveness and common life goals.!?? It was like we had known each other forever. They told me about the budget cuts made by the government that effected funding specific education programs so now they have a serious teacher shortage. After laughing and carrying on I thought it was time for me to leave. I told them how relaxed and happy I feel in Sidney. One said she has friends who say the same thing. It’s what it is like living on the Island. I looked down and noticed in all that time I still had half of my cookie left. Oh Well! Guess who was doing a lot of talking! Headed to the gym and had a good workout.
