When you drive to the mountains on Vancouver Island you see signs that say “No Campfires.” The Island is very dry. I noticed that all the lawns are brown. The majority of the island is Vegetation but, it is needing water. They don’t get much snow here but they do get rain. Apparently there wasn’t enough last year . So Gordon and I were driving back from Tofino when he said, “I don’t like the look of that helicopter.” Then we were being stopped. There was a fire right on the side of the road. We didn’t smell it. Fortunately on the other side of the road was a lake. So we sat and watched the helicopter go back and forth getting water and dropping it. It took awhile but they got it out. There are little wildfires all over BC. It made me realize that back roads are dangerous in fire season. Windy, twisty and narrow logging truck roads. Thank goodness we got out before we saw the fire. Last year there was a lot of fire on the mainland and eventually the smoke covered the skies over the Island. Hope that doesn’t happen again this year.
