Went to get our rental car. Fellow at the desk decided VW wasn’t going to work for us so we ended up with a Mercedes. So off we headed to Inverary Castle in Argyll. (The Campbell Castle) The 13th Duke of Argyll and his family live there. One of the most beautiful castles I have seen. Beautiful drive along Loch Lomond and then the salty shore to get there from Glasgow. Thoroughly enjoyed our tour through the castle. The Armory was phenominal. Definitely a well-armed clan. “The Bad Boys of the Highlands.”
Had a cup of tea in the castle cafe. When I looked on the wall there big pictures of Campbell’s soup. Gave me a good laugh. I guess they are connected. Also pictures of cast of Downtown Abbey …apparently they filmed an episode there. The castle itself was so gorgeous and setting was amazing.
Then continued on to Lochgilphead …We have ancestors who were there. Then headed to Kilmartin our ancestors in the cemetery there. Entire area was our family group. Arrived in Kilmartin with warm sun streaming down on us. Found a beautiful place for us, sunshine most of the day. Hung out in dining room in museum cafe.
Crossed the street to our hotel. Had our dinner and met a gal who was working on her ancestry. When she gets home we’ll make email contact…too much in common. Probably some connection. Had a coffee break in museum cafe looking over glen. One of the cute young waitresses had been to Del Mar…because of the Kaboo music festival. Wow! Love Scotland.
